Justin Gardiner Dr. El-Badry SEU Analytical Commentary #2 December 8, 2008 SEU Analytical Commentary #2 In attended to lecture given by Presidential Elect Barack Obama’s foreign policy advisor,  Dr. Leogrande, while he discussed the current United States relations in Latin America. In this,  Dr. Leogrande touched on the happenings in Latin American since the terrorist attacks in New  York City and Washington D.C. on September 11 th . Prior to these attacks, Bush had all  intentions of working with Mexico, helping work out problems, but decided to put that aside after  the terrorist attacks. The problem with this decision is that the president of Mexico, Vicente Fox,  ran on won the election on the premise that he had such great relations with the United States  and it would help the country. After this became apparent, most of Latin American “disengaged”  with the United States, and with Bush, issues such as immigration were left to mid-level policy  makers. Dr. leogrande then started to speak out about the election of Venezuelan President,
