Reflection on Language Awareness and the Meaning of GrammarIf someone had asked me before I started taking this course about my confidence in mygrammar skills, I would have given myself a nine out of ten. However, after going through thismodule my confidence took a hit. Being a native born American and speaking English as mynative language, I learned grammar mainly through my parents at an early age, school, and byreading books focusing on sentence structures and grammar. I feel very fortunate enough to havebeen able to learn and now be able to speak Chinese. By learning another language, I underwentthe same learning processes I went through as a child to learn English. It showed me theimportance of correct language structure because without it, communication becomes very slowand painful for both the listener and the speaker. Language structure is essentially the buildingblocks necessary for language, without the initial structures it becomes almost impossible to
