Writing Guidelines I. Review of Writing A. General 1. All papers will be submitted via the  turnitin.com (NO EXCEPTIONS).  2. Double space, 10 or 12 pt. font.   3. 1 to 1 ¼ margins. 4. Spelling and grammar count! 5. Make sure you cite your sources! a. Direct quotes must be presented as  such. b. Statistics must be attributed. c. Even paraphrased ideas must be  properly cited. d. Make sure you alphabetize your  bibliography. 6. Long quote format (over 4 lines of text). 7. Avoid “I” and especially “I think” or “I  feel”—you are the author so obviously  the opinions stated are your own. 8. Don’t use contractions.

9. Avoid “is”, and passive tense. 10. If you have any problems with  mechanics, structure, etc., see me or  the Writing Center. B. Position Papers. 1. Cover Page is not necessary; please try  to remember to put your name on the 1 st  page. 2. Brief introduction of issue, relevant to  your position. 3. Thesis should be a strong statement— pick just one side and argue it, even if  you personally are ambivalent. 4.
