Food Prices Higher prices in agricultural commodities causes  higher food prices  In the United States in 2006, U.S. corn prices  increased by 60% while world corn prices increased  by more than 50%. Wheat and soybean prices increased by 25% and 8%, respectively, in the United States, and increased by 21% and 7%, respectively, in the world market An increase in food prices make it difficult for poor citizens to buy food in developing nations 860 million people who can be classified as hungry or undernourished in the world Also, with an increase in demand for ethanol, more  the availability of foods such as corn and soybeans  could be limited
