EVOLUTION The Evolution of Evolution Definitions of Evolution 0. A continuing process of change from one state or condition to another or from one form to another. 1. a process in which something passes by degrees to a different stage (especially a more advanced or mature stage) 2. A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form 3. a process of change in a certain direction 4. a process of continuous change from a lower, simpler, or worse to a higher, more complex, or better state Evolution and Change in the Universe 0. Simply put evolution means change 1. All objective evidence clearly and definitively shows that the universe has continually changed (evolved) from its beginning. 2. Nebula, Galaxies, Stars, Solar Systems, Planets, and Moons are born, live, and die. None are permanent and all change. Evolution and Life 3. On this planet, the only one we know of where life exists, change is also the rule. 4. Species come and go. 5. Ninety nine percent of all species that have existed here are extinct Origins of Life 0. The origin of life remains an unsolved mystery. 1. Evolutionary biology provides a scientific framework for understanding the changes that have occurred since the first life forms arose on Earth several billion years ago. 2. Biochemists, geologists, and physicists seek natural explanations for the origin of life on Earth. 3. While progress has been made in this area, the origin of life remains an interesting, but unanswered, question.

There is a distinction between the fact of evolution and the theories by which it happened. The Evolution Controversy 9. Within the fields of science, evolution is accepted – it is not controversial The Evolution Controversy 4. A few primarily fundamentalist denominations object to the “Theory of Evolution” on grounds that it is inconsistent with biblical scripture. 5. The idea that evolution has produced biological diversity is opposed by fundamentalist and evangelical branches of Christianity. 6. These branches insist that the Bible is literally correct or they insist that man is a special case and could not have evolved.
