    What is a polyatomic ion? Two or more atoms covalently bonded, with a  nonzero overall charge. Examples: Nitrate: NO 3 - Sulfite: SO 3 2- Azide: N 3 - Negatively charged ions have names ending  in  ate ite , or  ide . Names of oxoanions end in  ate  or  ite .
