    Naming binary compounds IF the compound is  binary molecular , state: the prefix corresponding to the subscript of  the first element. the name of the first element the prefix corresponding to the subscript of  the second element the name of the second element, but  change the ending to  ide . PREFIXES: 2 = di, 3 = tri, 4 = tetra,  5 = penta, 6 = hexa, 7 = hepta, 8 = octa,  9 = nona, 10 = deca
