University of Houston, Engineering Technology MECT 1364 Materials & Processes OBJECTIVE: This paper researches and studies a manufacturing process in our industry or field of study. As a result of this research, an oral and visual presentation will be given based on the findings. BACKGROUND A flat tire is one of the most uncomfortable road issues, which sometimes causes danger and even death to the driver and passengers on the car. To help prevent this situation and to increase the general safety while driving, an anti-flat tire is invented. An anti-flat tire allows the car to continue driving and operating safely after the tire is damaged for a good time so that the car could possibly reach a tire shop or at least a safe area to change the damaged tire. DISCUSSION The most common cause of a flat tire is puncturing of the tire by a sharp object, for example, nails, a piece of glass, sharp rock…etc. Depending on the side of the puncture, the tires could be damaged in several forms: such as damaging the valve system, ripping the tire by rubbing off the tire against the road and definitely losing air. If the tire is damaged due to hitting a big object like big rocks or junk, excessive wear of tire tread or road debris to tear through it, etc… In the worst case, the collision to other vehicles or median strips may cause separation of tire and rim and also resulted in a damaged rim. Most of the times when these situations happen, the tire needs to be replaced immediately because continuing driving on the damaged tires could lead to damage other directly attached compartments to the tires, such as the wheel, rims and the axles of the vehicle. Consequently, driving on a flat tire will cause the driver’s loss of control, which likely causes the accident.

In recent years, the car market has shifted its attention heavily onto the tire industry, by pouring a large amount of money on researching and producing tires. The tire industry relentlessly wants to improve and invent a way to able to ensure quality and safety, especially during the unfortunate cases a tire is damaged.
