Marriages were essential and seen as a necessary union.
Sex in the Middle Ages & Renaissance Double standard between men and women continued.Missionary was the only position recommended by the church.Sex was never to be enjoyed especially by women.The poor did not have the luxury to enjoy sex or express the sexuality. Artists found creative ways to express eroticism in their work by using mythology.
