Williams 1 Ryan Williams 2 October 2006 EN 102 Christine Smith Sarah Kennedy On September 25, 2006 the traveling writers series brought two amazing writers to Butler University’s Writer’s Studio. R.T. Smith and Sarah Kennedy read some of their works and truly captivated their audience in doing so. I was fortunate enough to attend this traveling writers reading, and I was highly impressed by both writers. The reading started off with Sarah Kennedy reading a few of her poems. Sarah Kennedy, a Butler University alum, truly had a great sense and use of her vocabulary. Her words were knives that cut out the picture she was trying to paint. My two favorite poems that she read were Church Camp, Southern Indiana and Full Moon, 31 October 2001. These two poems struck me for some reason or another. Church Camp, Southern Indiana is a story of her own that she experienced at a church camp when she was younger. The poem was subtly sexual and somewhat conflicted with the title and subject of the poem. Kennedy uses words that would not
