Louis XIV 1. Louis’s XIV regent was Anne of Austria. When he was old enough, he decided to move to Versailles. 2. Moved to Versailles due to the Fronde, Louis was afraid of Parisians revolt and opposition to taxes. 3. Louis was one of the first kings to have to “levee routine”, composed of 6 entres: Entrée familiere, grand entrée, premiere entrée, entrée de la chamber, fifth entrée and sixth entrée. He wanted to show the absolute power of a king. 4. Louis XIV revokes the Edict of Nantes, and applies the “draggonades” policy. 5. Louis’s fist wife was Queen Marie Therese, and second wife was Madame de Maintenon. Colbert 1. Replaces Fouquet as finance minister and superintendant of buildings. 2. He had an icily cold and humorless personality. Under him, there was a kind of “industrial revolution” in Paris 3. He allowed for expansion in Paris with the construction of the Colleges des Quatre Nations designed by Le Vau and the Colonade of the Louvre designed by Bernini and Claude Perrault. 4.
