Brinkerhoff Company, Inc. has two main problem areas that they can improve on; leadership and communication. Leadership The main conflict that results in leadership disputes is the leadership style of Kurt Mannaheim and Rick Kopulos. Kurt Mannheim, strictly a task oriented leader, can not understand the way Kopulos, a people oriented leader manages his rig. Rig 1-E has been, before he received his promotion, under Mannheim’s supervision and he refers to being a rig leader as being the king. That almost hints on dictatorship and it is not a good characteristic of a team leader, especially not on a Rig. People on the Rig are supposed to cooperate and work together to achieve the maximum output. Instead of trying to understand Kopulos and see the positive effect of his leadership style on the rig 1-E, Mannheim ignores the obvious facts and rather uses projection to evaluate Kopulos. Projection is one of the perceptions of the attribution theory and people who engage in it tend to perceive others according to what they are like. Manneheim is very task
