Discussion AssignmentJob postings often state that the successful applicant must have superiorcritical thinking and problem-solving skills. Yet employers tell collegeadministrators that graduates, both from undergraduate and graduateprograms, often lack these skills.1.Having read this week's assigned materials, how would you define criticalthinking?2.Why are employers making these comments? Are they justified?Critical thinking is the skill that let people think rationally and clearlyand give them the ability to synthesize and analyze information throughevaluation, critiquing and, of course, knowledge. The ability of criticalthinking let people consider the fact objectively and give logicalsolutions to the problems. Those skills have been added to the interview process from theemployers, but it’s hard to understand the capacity of a person to thinkcritically. There isn’t a degree that demonstrates critical thinking skills, but there are some questions that the employees can do to understandthe candidate’s critical thinking skills, as shown, for example, in the“The Ultimate Cheat Sheet For Digital Thinking” by Global DigitalCitizen Foundation.Employees are making these comments because companies needcandidates also ready to fix problems, analyzing them objectively andfinding the right solutions in a few time. I think they are justifiedbecause of the human power that a person can bring in the company:although the technical skills are essential to be able to work andproduce, the critical thinking skills bring that value in the company thatcan make the difference. Every company has some problems, oftenunexpected, and sometimes some problems can stop the production or aproject process, making the process’s times longer and the costs higher. If all the employees are prepared only for their specific job, no one isworried to fix the problem, but they’re all waiting to start to work, assoon as someone finds a solution. The value of the critical thinking skillsis very appreciated from employees for those reasons, that’s why in thejob offers there is often a point regarding that skills, and the employeesof the human resources are always more prepared to catch in thecandidates this kind of ability.
