Many people are afraid of plastic surgeries, others just disagree to change natural features with which we were born.It is a growing trend in different parts of the world, for example in Latin America is very common for men and women to resort to different types of plastic surgeries to improve their appearance.Brazil,Venezuela and Colombia are all three countries with greater use of cosmetic surgery. Like any surgery, plastic surgery has risks and benefits that people should consider if they undergo a procedure of these. Plastic surgery is started to perform from the twentieth century mainly in United States and Europe.Of all medical specialties plastic surgery is the fastest growing around the world and currently one of the types of surgery most demanded by the people , and one of the most controversial, since in many cases it was billed as something frivolous and risky considering this kind of surgery as a luxury and not a necessity.(Smith 492). Even though some people argue that cosmetic surgery is highly risky and won’t cure confidence issues , in most of the cases people look better and feel better improving their self-esteem with a low percent of risk. People who are against cosmetic surgery argue that these procedures are used by insecure and low self-esteem people who risk their lives to look better. The Catholic Church is
PAZMIN 2 also a strong opponent of these procedures, arguing that people do it for vanity risking health for something that is not fundamental.Talking about the risks, according to Linda Saether,CNN Reporter,”Not everyone's a good plastic surgery candidate” the risks of cosmetic surgery vary according to the person, as there may be complications such as intolerance to anesthesia applied to the body, pneumoniae, infections and even death.( Mayo Clinic Staff) What effects produces the use of cosmetic surgeries in people? Like everything else, excessive use of anything is bad, for some people plastic surgery becomes an obsession;as a result, they suffer body dysmorphic disorder.Conforming to Anxiety and Depression Association of America, “Body-image disorder is characterized by persistent and intrusive preoccupations with an imagined or slight defect in one's appearance”,moreover the people who suffer depression and have high expectations to undergo cosmetic surgery may exacerbate this situation ,because they are not realistic with the results that may be obtained, leading them to a much stronger depression of which we had. On the other hand, people who undergo plastic surgery are susceptible to fall into the hands of bad doctors who have no experience and creating on them fake expectations.(CNN).
