INTRODUCTION Synthesis is a process which substances combine to form new substances completely. In this experiment, we are synthesizing coordination compound. Coordination compound is the product of a lewis acid-base reaction in which neutral molecules or anions bond to central metal by coordinate covalent bonds. A coordinate covalent bond is a bond in which one atom supplies both electrons. this type of bonding is different from a normal covalent bond in a bond which each atom supplies one electron. Aluminate is a compound containing an oxyanion of aluminium. It dissolves in both bases and acids. When dissolved in bases it forms hydroxyaluminate ions in the same way as aluminium hydroxide or aluminium salts. The hydroxyaluminate or hydrated aluminate can be precipitated and then calcined to produce anhydrous aluminates. The overall chemical equation: Al + 3KOH + 3H 2 C 2 O 4 • 2H 2 O → K 3 [Al(C 2 O 4 ) 3 ] • 3H 2 O + 6H 2 O + 3/2 H 2 The amount of coordination compound expected from a given mass of reactants can be calculated and is called the theoretical yield. The actual mass of coordination compound synthesized called the actual yield. The actual yield is usually less than the theoretical yield.
