INTRODUCTIONSynthesis is a process which substances combine to form new substances completely.In this experiment, we are synthesizing coordination compound. Coordination compound isthe product of a lewis acid-base reaction in which neutral molecules or anions bond to centralmetal by coordinate covalent bonds. A coordinate covalent bond is a bond in which one atomsupplies both electrons. this type of bonding is different from a normal covalent bond in abond which each atom supplies one electron.Aluminate is a compound containing an oxyanion of aluminium. It dissolves in bothbases and acids. When dissolved in bases it forms hydroxyaluminate ions in the same way asaluminium hydroxide or aluminium salts. The hydroxyaluminate or hydrated aluminate canbe precipitated and then calcined to produce anhydrous aluminates. The overall chemicalequation: Al + 3KOH + 3H2C2O4• 2H2O → K3[Al(C2O4)3] • 3H2O + 6H2O + 3/2 H2The amount of coordination compound expected from a given mass of reactants canbe calculated and is called the theoretical yield. The actual mass of coordination compoundsynthesized called the actual yield. The actual yield is usually less than the theoretical yield.
