Sarah Elisabeth Goode By Shahrin Shafique Sarah Elisabeth Goode was an inventor with a childhood that shaped her into the person she was.Sarah was one out of her 7 siblings. When Sarah was a baby, she was born into slavery as Sarah Elisabeth Jacobs. After getting her freedom, she moved from Toledo, Ohio to Chicago, Illinois. Next, Sarah’s father, Oliver Jacobs, was a carpenter and used to take her to his shop. Since she was there a lot, she got to find her love of building. Sarah Elisabeth Goode had a very interesting life! She came up with her invention by hearing her customers complaining about how their beds were taking up too much space. According to Wikipedia (2017), “ Goode invented the cabinet folding bed which helped efficiently”. Sarah also inspired African American women to invent more inventions and get patents for them. Sarah’s father was a carpenter and so was her husband, so this could have influenced Sarah’s knowledge about furniture construction. In addition, Sarah was born into slavery, so
