GENERATION ADDICTED - War on drugs failed: why? - In the 90s, shift towards better pain management = stronger drugs made by pharmaceuticals and doctors wrote enough prescriptions for every man and woman in America o If you’re hooked you need 160mg a day ($160 a day) o You can get heroin for only ten dollars a bag (cheapest in the country in Philly) - Age decreases in the use (usually transition from painkillers to heroin) - Analogy: you’re in a desert and find water that’s poisoned. The first day you won’t drink, but by second or third you are compelled even though its rational to not drink it. Your brain is so compelled o Addiction = too powerful that it’s not possible to attribute consequences of it to social failing - Stigma put on addiction might be the reason why some people don’t seek help (like Sal) o One says he feels like he threw it all away (starts off personal choice, ends up not) - “Not relying on arrest and incarceration” -Michael Botticelli - DEA launched 360 strategy in Pittsburgh; a compassion-based approach o

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
