LAB 7 CIRCULAR MOTION AND CENTRIPETAL FORCE INTRODUCTION The acceleration of an object moving in circular motion points toward the center of the circle and is defined by a = v 2 /r where “a” is the acceleration, “v” is the velocity, and “r” is the radius of the circle. The centripetal force, F, is the force required to make the object move in a circular path and can be found using the equation F = ma where “m” is the mass of the object. The force can also be found by F = mrω 2 where ω is the angular velocity. In this lab we will measure the centripetal force of three circular balls having three different radii i.e. 12, 13.5 and 15 cm by using centripetal force apparatus (CFA). DATA Table 1: Angular velocity and centripetal force. Given: Revolving mass, m = 0.208 kg Radius R (m) Time for 5 revolutions t (s) Average Time for 5 rev. tave (s) Average Period T = t ave /5 (s) Angular velocity ω=2 π /T (r/s) Centripetal Force FC = mrω 2 (N) Calibr ation Mass M (kg) Calibrated Force F' = Mg (N) % diff.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
