LAB 7 CIRCULAR MOTION AND CENTRIPETAL FORCE INTRODUCTION The acceleration of an object moving in circular motion points toward the center of the circle and is defined by a = v 2 /r where “a” is the acceleration, “v” is the velocity, and “r” is the radius of the circle. The centripetal force, F, is the force required to make the object move in a circular path and can be found using the equation F = ma where “m” is the mass of the object. The force can also be found by F = mrω 2 where ω is the angular velocity. In this lab we will measure the centripetal force of three circular balls having three different radii i.e. 12, 13.5 and 15 cm by using centripetal force apparatus (CFA).
