Autonomous Robot Lab Report Completed: July 26, 2019 Timothy Tipton Sage Smith Introduction The purpose of this lab was to develop an autonomous robot capable of staying within a designated area for a period of at least two minutes while another team’s robot was doing the same, effectively creating a competition to see which team’s robot could stay as close to the center of the circle in the allotted amount of time. The lab’s purpose was also to introduce us to the various aspects of team formation and development, including communication and creative problem solving. My partner and I were given one Lego Mindstorms kit to use to build the robot with, as well as the software used to program it. In this lab report I will include an outline and explanation of: 1. How we formed our team and the steps we used to conceptualize the robot. 2. How we built and programmed the robot in order to satisfy the objective of staying within the designated area. 3. How the robot performed in the competition versus how it performed during development, as well as improvements that could be made to the robot in the future. I will also conclude this lab report with a peer evaluation of my lab partner. Team Formation and Teamwork Team Formation My lab partner and I chose each other because each of our strengths complement each other’s weaknesses. I have a strong background in auto mechanics and construction. Those are skills which enabled me to work better on the physical aspect of the robot, including design and wheel placement. My partner has a strong background in programming which enabled him to design a program for the robot that will instruct it to operate effectively. Having two different people with different skills, abilities, and backgrounds allows the team to more effectively solve problems during the course of the lab. Shared Objective The objective of our team is to build an autonomous robot out of Legos, capable of moving around a circular arena without leaving it. As a secondary objective, we would like our robot to effectively push or maneuver the other robot that we are in competition with, out of the arena.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
