3 Geoprocessing can be defined as the set of activities aimed at the collection and processing of spatial information technologies for a specific purpose . Thus, activities that involve geoprocessing , are implemented by specific systems for each application. These systems are commonly called Geographic Information Systems ( GIS). A system of geoprocessing is intended for processing of geographically referenced (or georeferenced ) data from your collection to create outputs as conventional maps , reports, digital files, etc. . Must possess resources for storage , management , manipulation and analysis . With the evolution of technology and graphic geoprocessing software , emerged several terms for different specialties. The name GIS ( Geographic Information System or GIS - ) is widely used and often is mistaken for geoprocessing . Geoprocessing is a more comprehensive concept and represents any type of geo-referenced data processing , while a GIS and graphics processing graphics data (alphanumeric ) with emphasis on spatial analysis and surface modeling .

5 A geographic information system (GIS) is a collection of hardware, software, geographic data, and personnel designed to create, store, edit, manipulate, analyze and display geographically referenced information. a relevant set of data, in conformity with the studied problems; a GIS tools able to ensure the considered treatments; computer equipment able to support information and the necessary treatments; methods and strategies; actors bringing their participation in each stage of the project.

6 Most technical definition GIS is a system of hardware and software used for storage, retrieval, mapping, and analysis of geographic data. Spatial features are stored in a coordinate system (as latitude/longitude), referring to a particular place on the earth. Descriptive attributes in tabular form are associated with spatial features. Spatial data and associated attributes can be layered together for mapping and analysis. (if same coordinate system)
