Annie Xiong COMM 10 Professor Chivers January 20, 2019 Reflection paper 1 I label my gender identity; as a cisgender heterosexual female. I had always viewed my gender identity to be set, in the way of how my parents and peers around me portrays it as. I’ve always been scolded that I had to be proper, mature and “ladylike” because of the sex I was born into. I never accepted/liked the ways I was forced to act, dress and do from my parents and the ones that scoff and view me at school, to the point where I always lashed out and found that what I truly valued; myself. I became somewhat a “tomboy” because always being restricted to certain “ladylike” qualities such as my stance, clothes, language, and especially rights made a constriction on my being that felt suffocating. I thought I had no other way to escape these feelings especially when I was told out loud what I could/couldn’t do because I “am a girl”. I hated that word. I’m actually glad I was brought up like this because now, I am able to perform in a way where I love to use my past reckless and wild behavior and portray out a “unique?” quality.
