SCHOOL OF ACCOUNTANY GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY MEMORANDUM TO: Mr. Dan Schaefer, Executive Director of the Petersburg, Va., Office of the Volunteers of America (VOA) SUBJECT: Recommendation for the Day-Care Center in the Alta Vista Housing Community Introduction Mr. Dan Schaefer, executive director of the Petersburg, Va., office of the Volunteers of America (VOA), is seeking for approval from the board of directors to open a day-care center in the Alta Vista housing community. Mr. Schaefer believes this project will be an ideal way to begin rebuilding the Alta Vista community. This memo will exam the results of the cost-volume-profit analysis and outline the benefits and challenges of taking up this project. A recommendation will be made to Mr. Schaefer about the financial obligations and whether the project will be successful or not. Project benefits Many families depend on two or more jobs to survive; hence daycare is considered as a necessity. Many parents especially single parents cannot raise their children and keep their jobs at the same time. While, the inability to do it all is often stressful for many parents, having a day- care center in their community would help reduce that burden. Furthermore, some parents are stay at home parents because they have to take care of their children, but with this new project they will be able to look for jobs while not having to worry about taking care of their children. The day-care center will not only benefit the parents but the children as well because it will offer a formal, structured environment that will help the children with their academic advancement, growth development, and the opportunity to interact and socialize with other children.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
