WEEK THREE SUMMARY 2 Week Three Summary Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners, Ch. 9 Reviewing and assessing lesson objectives is the focus of chapter nine. It is essential to understand the process of evaluating and measuring students. When working with English learners, it is crucial to the success of these students. One must know if the student is progressing appropriately, or needs to have additional assistance or a different plan. The assessment can be formal or informal. Informal assessments are a quick and accurate evaluation of how the student is doing in an area or subject. Following the SIOP lesson gives teachers information to process where a student is at academically and if they have met the determined objectives. The chapter expresses the importance of review and assessment. When assessing the student, the instructor will have a better idea of how he or she is developing and growing. If there is a lack of growth, the student may need individualized attention on the subject, or a different plan to present the lesson. One must provide continuous feedback positively, so the student continues to strive to succeed.
