The focus of this course is to provide a foundation for analytical concepts, techniques, and tools required in business decision making. BA tools are extensively used in the areas of marketing, strategic planning, and financial planning. Given the importance and strong demand of BA, this course will equip the future business managers on using the BA tools, strategies, and techniques in their work place. This course provides a good understanding of the basic concepts of managing BA using data visualization, online analytical processing (OLAP) and other related topics. The course will use extensive hands-on exercises with MS Excel, R, SQLite, and Tableau. Prerequisite courses: None Required Software Products In this course, we will use R, Microsoft Excel, SQLite, and Tableau. License keys will be provided to the students for Tableau. Separate instructions at blackboard will be provided on how to download and install the software products in students’ laptops. Course Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. Learn the fundamental concepts of Business Analytics (BA) 2. Learn how to organize and prepare data prior to analysis 3. Learn how to use MS Excel as an analytics tool 4. Apply statistical techniques (through R) and analyze/interpret data sets for decision making 5. Develop analytical skills in creating effective analytics solutions such as dashboards 6. Learn and use Analytics tools and techniques for effective decision making 1

7. Demonstrate the use of BA in multiple domains (e.g. healthcare and legal) and in multiple decision making activities (e.g. evaluation of customer profitability and loyalty, perform warranty, and pricing analysis) 8. Understand the future trends and directions for BA (e.g. Predictive Analysis). Course Textbooks and Readings: No text books to purchase. Reading materials will be posted at Blackboard.
