Christina McCool HSC Emotional and Social Intelligence Buda Many people flourish in and struggle with aspects of self-consciousness. The consciousness of self is a heightened sense of self-awareness that incudes different components. These components are emotional self-control, authenticity, healthy self-esteem, flexibility, optimism, initiative, and achievement. The component of “consciousness of self” that I found most difficult to understand would have to be emotional self- control. Emotional self- control is about consciously moderating one’s emotions. I find this component most difficult to understand because it begins with understanding your own emotions. It takes much effort to understand your emotions in relation to why you feel that way, why they are happening and how they’re affecting your actions. Also, after realizing how your emotions work and why you are feeling the way you do, you must be able to control them in certain situations. I find this component difficult to understand because it’s really geared towards a personal aspect of the “consciousness of self”. Personally, I tend to have a weakness in this component. I do not always understand why I feel the way I do about certain situations. I need to be able to identify my own emotions and understand why I feel the
