Purpose The purpose of this experiment was to determine the neutralization capacity of commercial antacid tablets by the method of back- titration. Procedure The procedure for this lab can be found on pages 61-66 in “General Chemistry CHE110L Laboratory Manual Fall 2017”. Data Tables Carbon copies of data tables have been attached to the back of this lab report. Calculations 1. Total Millimoles of HCl added (mmoles of HCl) 50 x 0.1121= 5.605 2. Millimmoles of NaOH used (mmoles of NaOH) Trial 1 0.1028 x 16.4 = 1.69 mmoles Trial 2 0.1028 x 15.9 = 1.635 mmoles 3. Millimoles of H+ that reacted with crushed antacid sample Trial 1 5.605 – 1.69 = 3.915 mmoles Trial 2 5.605 – 1.635 = 3.97 mmoles 4. The #mmoles active ingredient reacting with H+ Trial 1 3.915 mmHCl ( 1 moleCaCO 3 2 mmHCL ) = 1.96 mole CaC O 3 Trial 2 3.97 mmHCl ( 1 moleCaCO 3 2 mmHCL ) = 1.99 mole CaC O 3 5. Millimoles of active ingredient in 1g crushed antacid sample Trial 1 1.96 0.257 = 7.67 mmoles/g

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
