Study Guide Bridge Chapter Analysis Evaluation (Monday, 3/11) In preparation for your bridge chapter evaluation, study the following terms: Allusion: a brief and indirect reference to a person, place, thing or idea of historical, cultural, literary or political significance. It does not describe in detail the person or thing to which it refers. It is just a passing comment and the writer expects the reader to possess enough knowledge to spot the allusion and grasp its importance in a text. Sometimes you can spot an allusion by how it’s formatted: Proper nouns Italicized Presented in verse Diction - word choice - not that it is said (detail) but how it is said. Need to isolate diction (one word or a phrase) to analyze. Figurative language - not enough to just identify. You have to express the function of the device and convince your reader of why the author would choose this to support the
