Siya Yadav Mrs. Sollow English II 1-2 24 September 2018 Gatsby’s Death Persuasive Essay Choices that people make affect everyone around them. In the novel, The Great Gatsby , the characters make choices for themselves that affect others. Nick Carraway, the narrator, moves to Manhattan to work as a bond trader. He rents a house in West Egg, Long Island, where he meets his neighbor, Gatsby. Gatsby throws lavish parties almost every night, hoping he sees Daisy Buchanan, his old lover, who also happens to be Nick’s cousin. Gatsby, using the help of Nick, rekindles with his old love, a married woman with a young child. Her husband, Tom, is a flirt and only married Daisy for her status and Daisy only married Tom for his money. When Daisy and Gatsby decided to tell Tom about their affair, they get in a brawl which leaves the night ending with Daisy running over Myrtle (Tom’s mistress) with Gatsby’s car. Tom tells Myrtle's husband, George, that Myrtle was run over by Gatsby’s car. George shoots and kills Gatsby, along with himself the next day. There were many choices made by each character in this book that led to Gatsby’s demise. Due to his delusions, his unwillingness to accept change, and their affair, Jay Gatsby is almost fully responsible for his own tragic demise.
