Yasman Bafandkar Poli 16 Professor James Nguyen 1/21/2016 Reading notes/class thoughts #2 The class discussion that I found most interesting this week was about the action that “Black Seed”, a group part of the Black Lives Matter movement, took on the MLK day. We were basically asked to either criticize their action or come up with reasons for why what they did was good for their case and issue. Most of the arguments brought up in class were in support of Black Seeds blockade of the Bay Bridge. However, one argument that was against it really got my attention. The argument was: if we start to have this kind of protests frequently, then it will become a problem for the society from a practical standpoint. If we would have bridge or even highway blockades every week, people would stop seeing them as symbolic actions, and start to get angry at people who performed them.
