Cynthia Fry NUTR 101 Professor Simpson Below is a McDonald’s commercial highlighting their new donut sticks. It features a drive-thru with a man ordering two coffees and four orders of the new donut sticks. The man then arrives to pay and pick up his order. The lady in the drive-thru then proceeds to ask the man, “you must love these new donut sticks.” The man says, “Yes, I do. But they are not for me, they are for him.” He is talking about the man behind him with a car full of children who seems miserable. The man then proceeds to purchase the food for the man and children behind him in the line and only takes one coffee for himself. The commercial then shows how much that made the other man’s day. This commercial uses the power of pathos to create a powerful feeling that makes every person want to do something kind for a stranger. Although, that is great, my biggest “takeaway” from this commercial is that fast food companies are trying to benefit from kindness and convenience. Which, in
