Eunise Olvera LBST 2102 Carolina Oliveira 04/24/19 Weekly Response 2 In the article “Chapter Five, Mixed and Unequal: New Perspective on Brazilian Ethnoracial Relations” by Silva and Paixao, the authors evaluate through various studies how physical characteristics as well as social class play a part in the extreme discrimination towards Afro-Brazilians. In the studies made by the organization PERLA, they asked people of various phenotypes, races, and social class different questions that provided answers for identification in Brazil. In one study, they paired their questions with a color palette and related how people with darker skin were identified by others. The goal of the studies was to provide answers for the issues involving discrimination in Brazil and to prove that discrimination existed in the country as many whites denied it. They backed up there findings with statistics in order to have a basis for their argument which explained that inequality towards blacks was still very evident.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
