Among the Thugs Whether it was destined or just by luck, Bill Buford found himself Among the Thugs at 1:30 AM. Bill unfamiliar with the idea of being rowdy after a football game was intrigued when he saw a group of young men terrorizing the city. This sparked Bill’s interest in why these young working-class men were acting in this manner. While reading, I concluded a few things: Sports bring us together, there is a tiered level of fandom, the team becomes role models for the city they play for, and how uncanny my high school peers would act like hooligans. Sports allow cities to grow, fans to celebrate uniquely, and bonds to be made. Sports are like a universal language. They allow people to connect, interact, and play with only having at least one thing in common, the love of the game. Sports bring of together not only mentally but physically. At the stadium, sports bar, or even at a party sports bring us together. Also if you are just there because your friend are, sports still brought you together. When it comes to socioeconomic status you can still like games, your religious believes do not stop you from liking sport, sexual orientation and so much more does not prevent someone from loving sports. “football matches were providing an outlet for the frustration of a powerful nature” (page 15). Meaning sports is a great outlet to reveal stress to all types of people.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
