Topic: Parts of a Tree Grade: 4th Grade Authors: Sarah Shearer, Hailey Johnson, Maggie Curts, Mikala Kotecki Date: April 15th, 2019 Objectives To understand what parts make up a tree To understand what function each part serves Standards 4.LS.3 Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction in a different ecosystems. Materials Poster or large sticky note paper Markers Book: “Tell me Tree: All About Trees for Kids” Coloring materials Coloring and label worksheet of a tree Procedures 1. Bring the class together to create a KWL chart, based on what they wrote in their journals. Then list on chart paper all of the things kids know about trees, and discuss any misconceptions. Some examples of things they may know are listed below: They provide shade and cool places. They release oxygen into the air.
