Final Research Paper Due 5/1/18 by 3:30PM (150 points, 30% of total grade) In order to critically analyze and reflect on a specific facet of sexuality through a sociological lens, the course culminates with a final research paper. You will be responsible for identifying a topic of interest, reviewing the academic literature on the topic, researching a “localized” aspect of your topic, and writing a substantial paper about your findings. Step 1: Select a Topic The first step toward your final research paper is identifying a topic that you’re interested in. Topics can sometimes emerge naturally from your personal or professional interests, or you may discover something in this course that you want to learn more about. It may also be helpful for you to browse scholarly articles to define a topic (you’ll have to do a literature review anyway - may as well do some research early on). Your topic should be specific and related to sexuality in some way. For example, say I’m interested in the commodification of sex (sex for money). However, choosing commodification of sex as my topic is too broad - that topic doesn’t give me a clear sense of direction for a literature review or a “localized” application, and there are endless sub- topics and themes that could emerge. Instead, I would need to narrow it down to something more specific, like street-level prostitution. Street-level prostitution is a much stronger topic choice because it would allow me to have a very focused literature review, and I could easily come up with several different options for localizing the topic (see details below). Step 2: Localizing Your Topic In addition to conducting a literature review on your topic of choice, this assignment requires you to localize your topic and learn more about it within a certain “local” space. While the literature review component of this assignment should provide you with a basic and broad understanding of your topic, the local application portion allows you to delve deeper into the topic in an applied manner and connect it to the real world. Localization can be considered quite

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
