Jack Nunnington Partner: Eugene CH 1401E St Mary’s University Physical Properties of Mixtures: The Density of Alcohol Solutions Objective: Investigate how the density of a mixture changes with composition Experimental procedure: Part 1: Initially find the mass of the volumetric flask (ensuring it is dry) and stopper, three time and finding and recording the average mass. Then pipette the alcohol into the volumetric flask. Add water so it fills up the flask to just below the 10.0 ml mark. Put the stopper into the flask and mix the solution by inverting the flask ten times. Checking the volume and adding more water and mixing the solution if necessary. Restart the experiment if mixture goes over the 10.0ml mark. When the solution Is mixed well get the mass of the flask with the mixture. Part 2: Using nuts labeled as zinc, select any number of them and get the mass three times and find the average. Put the nuts into the beaker filled with water. Measure the displacement of the initial height of the water to the final Hight of the water with the nuts added. Use this information the calculate the volume of the nuts.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
