Tejesh Mehta ECE 684 HW #1 Q1 - How is a BJT different than a MOSFET? A BJT is different from a MOSFET for many different reasons. One major difference between a BJT and a MOSFET are that they are made up of different parts. The BJT consists of a collector, base, and an emitter while the MOSFET has a source, gate, and a drain. The BJT is commonly used in low current functions while the MOSFET is used in higher power operations. A BJT requires a constant current to the base in order to be and remain switched on. The MOSFET however only needs a voltage to be held at the gate. This makes the BJT current controlled and the MOSFET to be voltage controlled. In most applications the MOSFET is used more than the BJT in both analog and digital circuits. Q2 - Describe the valence and conduction bands of a conductor, an insulator, and a semiconductor In an insulator, the valence band is completely filled with electrons while the conduction band is empty. The insulator has empty space in the conduction band but no electrons from the valence

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
