The respiratory system works in a cycle in conjunction with the circulatory system to serve these purposes. The respiratory cycle consists of back and forth processes of inspiration and expiration. During inspiration, skeletal muscles contract, and increase volume within the thoracic cavity and lungs. The increased volume creates less pressure within the lungs than the atmosphere, so the air quickly rushes into the lungs. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
