How many regulatory bodies are overlooking the utilities? How many interconnections exist? Which fuels are used? What storage is available? How many markets exist? How are they related? How many contracts exist for the utility (GENCO, etc.) and for the customer? Are there option contracts? (Hint: Look at your electrical bill, go to the state of NJ Board of Public Utilities, or similar sites in your home country, the US Department of Energy website, etc. Try to fill in the lines in Fig. 2.1 or Fig. 2.2). The federal regulatory commission for the United States is called the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or FERC for short. Under FERC’s approval and oversight, NAERO sets the national reliability standards by defining them and standardizing them. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
