BODY POSITIONS AND EFFECT ON BLOOD PRESSURE 2 Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to find if one body position (laying down, standing or sitting) had a lower blood pressure than the body positions listed. To do this experiment, a blood pressure sensor or a sphygmomanometer was used to record the blood pressure while the same person did the three different body positions for three trials each with a resting period between each trial and position. Then for each trial, the blood pressure was recorded onto a graph format with Logger Pro software to see the difference between the body position’s results. For the standing, the trials resulted in 115 over 60 mm Hg, 117 over 72 mm Hg, and 128 over 73 mm Hg. For sitting, the trials concluded with 121 over 61 mm Hg, 144 over 49 mm Hg, and 112 over 64 mm Hg. Finally, for laying down the trials were 141 over 63 mm Hg, 120 over 64 mm Hg, and 127 over 59 mm Hg. The results were that sitting down had the lowest blood pressure and in conclusion, sitting down lowers and has the lowest blood pressure. Background In this class, the heart was overviewed for this unit which relates to the overall topic of Anna Garcia and her mysterious death. She had a family history of heart problems and diseases, which could mean that Anna could have died to a heart attack or stroke. Along with this, she is also reported to have sickle cell disease, a major factor with heart attacks and strokes sometimes as well as hypertension. Understanding the heart more with this experiment could draw a closer conclusion to how Anna Garcia died.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
