Jia Zheng ID:111381607 Lab 3 - Capacitors Introduction: In this experiment we will get to know how to determine the unknown capacitance of a capacitor. In order to do that, we need to observed the change in potential difference after initially charging the unknown capacitor, and when it is connected in parallel with a known capacitor. A capacitor is a passive two-terminal electrical component used to temporarily store electrical energy in an electric field. A resistor, an ideal capacitor does not dissipate energy. We will also observe how the capacitors act when they are connected in parallel. Lastly, we will test the behavior of capacitors when placed in series. This experiment greatly broadens the understanding of change in potential difference and the behavior of capacitors in series and parallel. In this experiment, we will be use oscilloscope again and it is very important to determine each mode we set on. The voltage across the two connected capacitors which is “equivalent capacitor” C eq is given by: V = V 0 C 1 /( C 1 + C 2 ), And then we can rearranging as V 0 / V = C 2 / C 1 + 1. Produce: 1. The lab materials were include Oscilloscope (you should review what you learned about the oscilloscope in Lab 2), Unknown capacitor C 1,

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
