2 The dilemma of Moral Ethics Facts/Scenario Luke is an employee of the ABC Company where he is charged with the responsibility to provide colleagues with ethical decisions on various assignments. The ABC Company is on the verge of constructing an adult entertainment store, situated on the corner of the vicinity where Owen, who is Luke’s brother, resides, and owns a house that he intends to sell at a good offer. Luke’s underlying task is to oversee the development plan that ABC intends to make public in one-month time. However, Luke’s brother, Owen has divulged to Luke about his intention to sell his house to an imminent buyer who has made an enticing offer although he is yet to make a final decision regarding the offer. The Ethical Issue Regarding the Scenario The kind of ethical dilemma that Luke is currently facing relates to the confidential obligation for ABC in conjunction with his brother’s situation. The ethical issue in this situation is Luke’s dilemma on whether to play his confidentiality obligation expected of him by the organization by concealing the impending announcement from his brother or reveal the information to him outright. Concealing the information from Owen will have an adverse impact on his real estate business with respect to the property value that is on the verge of decreasing in the event that ABC makes the announcement. This means that even his brother, Owen will experience a loss when he finally sells his house. Therefore, Luke must act within the framework of work ethics that guides employees at ABC, that is, loyalty and honesty to the company; this requires him to keep the information from outside parties, including his brother. Conversely, Luke may opt to warn Owen of ABC’s imminent plans, which would bear negative ramifications on property value in the surrounding neighborhood; this, however, might spread to other state owners, which, in turn, may jeopardize Luke’s job at ABC. Nonetheless, the ethical theories mentioned below provide a better understanding of

Analysis of the Ethical Dimensions of the Scenario Theory of Utilitarianism The ethical theory of utilitarianism and universal ethics, that is, categorical imperative suggests the importance of treating humans as ends instead of means. In addition, utilitarianism requires human beings to always produce the greatest results or impacts for the greatest number, which, in one way or another discourages individualism and selfishness in favor of collectivism and communism (Mill, 2016).
