2 Distribution, Consumption and Disposal. Throughout the book she analyzes the effects of consuming too much and how we as a whole should take part in sustainability for ourselves and our world. In this novel, many environmental effects are identified by Annie Leonard but the ones that stood out to me the most are the effects of consumerism. She makes it obvious of the large amount of naive people in our world that do not even realize how much we consume as a whole. When we believe that what we have is not good enough because something newer and shinier has come out, that is a sense a perceived obsolescence. This strategy is used by many companies to persuade the customer to buy more and more by hypnotizing them to throw away their product to buy the same exact product with a new look. There is also another strategy used by companies.
