Sam Hines Professor Powers ENG- 23714 April 17, 2016 The Lesson That Lasts a Lifetime She puts nothing above love and happiness. She cares about nothing more than her family. Sharon Hines, my grandma, is the best person, woman, fighter, and grandmother I could ever ask for. She places family above all else, and will do anything to see her family together. She is the woman that inspires me to be a better person more than anyone I will ever know. I will know whether or not I am a success as a parent if my children become a fraction of the caregiver that is my grandma. Walking out of a Lowe’s in 1998, she was on the phone with my grandpa, Wes. “I got the table, Wes,” my grandma said with excitement. They had been talking about bringing the family together for Thanksgiving. It was one of the very few things that my grandma needed to live on. Our family was all she ever needed, and she needed a big family gathering in her life. “That’s great Sharon,” my grandpa replied equally as excited as my grandma. “How many people can it seat? Do we have enough spots for all of the grandkids? Lauren and Sam are still small enough to sit in Scott and Letha’s lap while we eat.” Her voice began to grow shallow and a little concerned. “It fits 12,” she said softly. “How big of a table did you buy?” “It’s 25 feet long,” she replied.

“Where are we going to put a table like that? We don’t have room for a table that long in our entire house,” he replied extraordinarily anxious for her reply. She saw her image of her family gathering fading away. She couldn’t let something like this stop her, she wanting nothing in life more than her family to be together. All she wanted at this stage of her life was a big dining room table for the whole family, and suddenly that couldn’t happen. She pictured the house layout now; she pulled the phone to her face with as stern a manner as possible and commanded, “Make it fit.” After weeks of construction and $25,000 later, they now had an extended dining room that could fit a 25-foot table. Her only void in life was being filled; she finally gets to be around her entire family for every Christmas, every Indy 500 Race Party, and every Thanksgiving. I don’t think anything could have made her happier than that first Thanksgiving gathering.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
