Frankl (1905-1997). Dr. Frankl, a Jew, was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist who survived the Holocaust, enduring concentration camps at Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and another associated with Dachau. Please read the given passages from his book and answer the questions that follow. Passage #1 (pp. 44-45) 1. What does Frankl claim was necessary to survive the Holocaust? Frankl claimed that sense of humor and seeing things in a humorous light was the key thing to survive to Holocaust. 2. What does Frankl say about the “size” of suffering? Explain the analogy he uses. He says that size of suffering is relative and the analogy he uses is the one about the greatest of joys. Both of them are relative. 3. What example does Frankl give that provided the prisoners with great joy? Why is this ironic?
