Jack Nunnington Partner: Eugene CH 1401E St Mary’s University Physical Properties of Substances: Change in State of para-Dichlorobenzene (PBD) Objective : To investigate what happens when a pure substance freezes and melts. Experimental : We began by setting up the experiment. We got the para-Dichlorobenzene (frozen state) which was in a 150 mm test tube, two thermometers, a stop watch, Aluminium foil, a ring stand with clamp, tongs, a 400 ml beaker filled with water and a Bunsen burner. With an adequate table set up to record data, with 30 second intervals going to at least 25mins in one column and in the other column space to record the temperature of the PBD. Finally we put Aluminium onto the end of the test tube, so that it is sealed. Part one of the experiment is called the freezing curve. Grabbing the 150 mm test tube filled with frozen PBD gently wave it above the Bunsen burner, going from top to bottom so that it melts evenly. When it is fully melted, stick the thermometer through the Aluminium foil. Then continue to heat to 75 °C. Once the PBD is heated place it in the clamp on the ring stand, record

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
