The state of California has a Toxic Substances Control program, DTSC for short, was established in 1973 to help the state remain safe from harmful chemicals. This program has a wide range of employees and volunteers to do clean-ups on over 220 hazardous substances in over 90,000 different sites. This program also assist in investigating, monitoring and maintaining a property for any contamination, or after a clean-up, after an emergency spill of a hazardous chemicals. This program helps a serious of different sites such as, schools, military bases, businesses and landfills. Since the 2000 they have been present in over 2,300 clean ups in just school sites and additionally about 125 clean ups a year. This program serves its purpose to ensure properties is not contaminated keeping people and the environment safe. In order to operate the DTSC program this budget for a fiscal year is $217.5 million dollars. This is funded through special taxes and fees of $127.7 million dollars, Federal grants up to $32.9 million dollars, California’s General fund of $29.3 million dollars and other
