2 Running Head: PROGRAM REVIEW Program Review According to an organization called Child Help, their description of child abuse goes as follows, “Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and emotional abuse.” (Child Help, 2019) There are many nonprofit organizations that handle child abuse but the Division of Children and Family (DCFS) is the government agency that is specific to services rendered to children and families. This paper will provide and in depth look at what DCFS does, their mission, how the program is designed to help those in need and how the program is delivered to the participants. There will be a break down on the strategies used to intervene and the evaluation of the program. Last but not least, there will be talks on the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the program at hand. Design Unfortunately, child abuse is a problem that has been around forever. While there have been many attempts to stop child abuse, it appears to be easier said than done. The people put in place to protect the children legally have the right to forcefully remove the children – whether permanent or temporary. There are people who abuse children under the guise of a spiritual agenda or family tradition. DCFS in Louisiana provides help by, “Working to keep children safe, helping individuals and families become self-sufficient, and providing safe refuge during disasters.” (DCFS, 2019) Throughout America, DCFS make an effort to provide programs that educate and observe to prevent child abuse.
