It will help you become proficient in answering the questions in this assignment. 2. Use this Word document to fill in the answers to the questions. You must type out a clear answer to each question, even if the answer is also contained in the Excel file submitted to show work . Q 1. Simple Probability (6 points) Download the Excel data file provided in Canvas to answer this set of questions (Q1a-f). For each question, compute the probability of randomly selecting a case from the data set with the target variable attribute. The Excel file only needs to be submitted if you are using the file to show your work/process. (1 point for each question, deduct .5 if the process is correct but the result is incorrect.) Helpful tips: Being able to sort the data will be helpful for answering these questions. Review the Excel tutorials in the module called “Assignment Guides”. These questions are simple probability questions based solely on the data set provided in the Excel file. They have nothing to do with calculating z or finding proportions in the z table. Probability is always expressed in the decimal format (e.g. .15, .4, .99… etc), not as a fraction or percentage (these formats will not be accepted as correct answers). a. What is the probability of drawing a male? 20/40= 0.5 b. What is the probability of drawing a person who is older than 80 years old (excluding those who are 80)? 11/40= 0.275 c. What is the probability of drawing a person with 16 or more years of schooling (including 16)? 13/40= 0.325 f. What is the probability of drawing a male with less than 12 years of schooling (excluding 12)? 4/40= 0.1 Q2. Proportions (percentages) in a Z Distribution (20 points) A large population of scores from a standardized test are normally distributed with a population mean (μ) of 50 and a standard deviation (σ) of 5.
