Film 101 Film Journal: The 400 Blows The 400 Blows, a film by Francois Truffaut, is a film about a young boy Antoine Dionel growing up in Paris, France. The character is based on the director’s youth, when Truffaut was a rebellious teen who was truant from school and enjoyed spending his time at the movies. This was the first movie that I have had the pleasure of watching where I realized that there was no pattern per se. In chapter 2, it mentions that we instinctively search for pattern in all art forms. In this movie, finding a patter was very difficult, and that is why I enjoyed the movie so much. It was as if Dionel’s life was just playing along in front of our eyes as if we followed him for a week or two. It was as if the movie lacked the typical structure that we are used to seeing in a “normal” movie. I believe this would be classified as an experimental film because it was a personal film to the director and it pushed the envelope on what was expected of a movie at the time. I would
