Absolute Zero Lab Jordan Lane Dr. Mohottala/Thomas Gleason 12/08/16 Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to study the Ideal Gas Law by gathering multiple sets of data to represent the law and use them to extrapolate and find absolute zero. Introduction : In this experiment, the Ideal Gas Law was used to find the value of absolute zero. This was done by taking multiple measurements that represented the relationship between pressure and temperature and using those data points to derive an equation that both represents the ideal gas law and can be used to create find the value of absolute zero. Equation 1: PV = nRT Equation 1 is the ideal gas law. The number of moles, n, and the universal gas constant, R, are both constants, and since a rigid container was used, volume, v [cm 3 ] is also a constant. This allows equation 1 to be rewritten as equation 2. Equation 2: P = (nR/V)T Equation 2 can then be used to describe the relationship between pressure and temperature in this experiment.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
